i'm born in East Meadow, New York on March 20, 1954 and lived there until third grade. My father worked tirelessly on the 78th floor with the Empire State Building, as well as that somehow inspired Wayside School, discussion? I enjoyed school and would have been a good student, however it wasn't until high school that we really became a passionate reader. J.D. Salinger and Kurt Vonnegut were the authors who first inspired me. Several of my other favorite authors include E.L. Doctorow, Margaret Atwood, E.B White, Richard Price and Kazuo Ishiguro.

After secondary school, I attended Antioch College in Ohio. My father died in doing my first semester, and i also returned to California to generally be near my mother. During that time, I'd this quick but surprisingly successful career as a Fuller Brush man. For those too young to understand what that's, I went door-to-door selling cleaning products.

I returned to varsity, this time around on the University of California at Berkeley where I majored in Economics. On campus 1 day, I saw the unlikely sight associated with an elementary school girl providing flyers. I took one from her. It said: "Help. We want teachers aides at our school. Earn three units of credit." I think it over and decided it turned out a pretty good deal.
